Canarias Suave (New) — The packaging is distinct from all previous Canarias releases. It lacks the glossy finish of earlier packages, making the pack more fragile and prone to tearing upon opening—as happened to me. The yerba itself looks quite similar to other Canarias varieties, though the individual leaves appear more defined. It definitely contains significantly less leaf dust. Its aroma is less smoky and less intense than that of the *Tradicional* blend—more akin to the *Serena* variety—offering a fresher, more herbal scent. I brewed it at 175°F (80°C) to fully enjoy it. It produces a nice foaminess when water is added. The montañita (the mound of dry yerba) is easy to form and holds its shape throughout the entire session—a hallmark of the Uruguayan style. The flavor is light, herbal, and not overly intense; it is extremely pleasant on the palate. You know you are drinking Canarias, yet it doesn't overwhelm you with smokiness or intensity. There is almost no bitterness, and while some astringency is still present, it is definitely much milder than in the other varieties. I perhaps miss the characteristic creaminess of the *Tradicional* blend, but this version is excellent and possesses a good body. I drank it at 8:00 AM and found it perfectly suited for a morning mate session. If anyone is looking to start drinking mate in the Uruguayan style, I highly recommend this blend—either for beginners or for those of us who might simply want a break from the stronger, more intense varieties. A single mate lasted me through a 1.5-liter thermos while maintaining excellent flavor. On my personal scale, I give it a solid passing grade of 8.5/10.

Canarias Suave is exactly what a “Suave” edition should be. It stays very true to the classic Canarias profile, but with a smoother body, lower intensity, and noticeably less bitterness. You still get the familiar depth and character that makes Canarias so popular, just in a more approachable and easy drinking form. Because it’s gentler on the palate, this could be an excellent beginner yerba for someone curious about stronger Uruguayan style blends. At the same time, it has enough complexity to keep experienced materos interested. It also held up well through a full liter without washing out. I’d recommend it both to longtime Canarias fans and to anyone looking for a softer entry point into the brand.
